Brewery Experience Assistant General Manager  

Job Summary

The Assistant General Manager position is responsible for the overall consumer experience at Flying Dog Brewery.  The primary responsibility of this role is assisting the General Manager in the development, creation, management, and execution of all consumer activities at the brewery – including public and private events, brewery tours, and the day-to-day operation of the gift shop and tasting room.

The Assistant General Manager will also assist the General Manager with functions related to front desk reception, the Flying Dog RV program, and relevant consumer communication as it relates to the brewery experience.

This job requires strong organization and communication skills, along with the ability to handle multiple projects at once in a fast-moving environment. In addition, a person with a heightened sense of creativity, collaborative nature, and open mind will thrive in our marketing team.

Essential Functions in Supporting Our Mission: 

As assigned by the General Manager, the duties of the Assistant General Manager will involve:

  • The tasting room
  • Brewery events
  • The Tour program
  • Private and “VIP” visits
  • The gift shop
  • The Flying Dog RV program
  • The front desk and first-impression opportunities

The Assistant General Manager will also work with the marketing team to help promote all programs and activities at the brewery and spread the gospel of good beer. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-3 years experience in hospitality, event planning, and/or bar/restaurant fields
  • Extensive knowledge of craft beer, the brewing process, and draft beer systems is essential
  • Brand marketing or event marketing experience preferred
  • Experience with a variety of social media channels a plus
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills, be able to work independently, and meet deadlines with a strong, positive attitude
  • Able to juggle and prioritize multiple projects, under a tight deadline, with a focus on the details
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Reports to: General Manager of the Brewery Experience

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Scheduling and supervision of the brewery experience team

District of Columbia Sales Specialist

Job Summary

The Sales Specialist will be responsible for educating wholesalers and consumers on the Flying Dog story and products all while giving them a unique memorable experience.

Essential Functions in Supporting Our Mission: Make Friends, Sell Beer, Have Fun…

  • Build relationships, brand presence/awareness, and volume at key on and off-premise accounts
  • Create new placements with a purpose
  • Improve shelf placements and POS at on and off premise accounts
  • Provide staff training for new on-premise draft accounts
  • Check code dates/product rotation at off-premise accounts
  • Communicate the Flying Dog story, and educate distributors and consumers on our beer, brewing process and products
  • Provide a high level of customer service to distributors
  • Participate in distributor sales and planning meetings
  • Leading and organizing unique events with smooth execution
  • Public speaking

Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • At least 2 years of professional sales experience is required
  • Must be at least 21+ years old
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and have the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in marketing, sales and management preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Current, valid and clean driver’s license
  • Cicerone Beer Server Certification or the willingness to obtain the certification
  • Computer literacy is a must. Experience in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is essential
  • Ability to sample our product for sensory and educational purposes
  • Must have the capability to become TIPS certified
  • Chain sales experience a plus

Cellar Tech

Job Summary

  • Cellar Technician is responsible for processes and procedures surrounding producing the highest quality beer possible. Duties include but are not limited to the following: CIP processes, wort and yeast handling, sample taking, information management, etc. 
  • Other related duties and assignments as required.

Essential Functions in Supporting Our Mission

  • The role of Cellar Technician is essential as these persons have a high degree of interaction with the product and the quality parameters that go into producing remarkable beer.

Nonessential Functions

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the science of fermentation and theories of the processes and equipment employed daily to accomplish our goals.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate and follow direction is necessary. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position requires the ability to manage one’s self, working in an effective and efficient manner.

 Working Conditions

  • Cellar Technician needs to be able to work on their feet for over eight hours at a time, repeatedly lift 55lbs, work in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time, in loud production environments, with chemicals of varying composition, work from heights, work in damp and wet areas and work in confined spaces.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have basic math and reading skills.  Previous brewing experience and or education is preferred.

Quality Assurance Manager

Job Summary

The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all aspects of brewery raw material and finished product quality. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Analysis of raw materials
  • Microbiological sampling and testing
  • Analysis of in process and packaged product
  • Maintaining standards of laboratory processes and regular auditing of these processes
  • Detailed and accurate record keeping Sampling our product for QA/QC, sensory and educational purposes

Essential Functions in Supporting Our Mission

The role of the Quality Assurance Manager is essential as this person has a high degree of responsibility ensuring all raw materials, ingredients, processes, and products meet quality standards and specifications, ultimately ensuring the customer is receiving the highest quality product possible. A strong background in microbiology and chemistry, including knowledge of ASBC standard analysis, is ideal.

Working Conditions

Our Quality Assurance Manager needs to be able to work on their feet for over eight hours at a time, in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time, in loud production environments, with chemicals of varying composition, from heights, as well as in damp and wet areas.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years in food/beverage quality management
  • Must have 2+ years of 3 or more direct reports
  • BS degree in microbiology, chemistry, bio-chemistry or relevant work experience
  • Advanced math and reading skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite

Packaging Operator

Job Summary: To ensure the quality of our packaging process and guarantee our beer is nothing short of remarkable.

Essential Functions in Supporting Our Mission

  • Oversee all processes and packaging operations
  • Ensure quality of the finished product is up to par with the Flying Dog Quality Standards
  • Show up on time and do everything possible to ensure a smooth timely start
  • Know proper and safe operations of every machine on the packaging line
  • Be able to locate Start on Stop buttons including emergency stop’s on every machine
  • Work as a team
  • Ensure the cleanliness of all packaging equipment & packaging area
  • Work with Bottling Lead and VP of Bottling Line to ensure all packaging materials are stocked
  • Assist all other packaging employees in their daily task to ensure that packaging continues in a smooth fashion
  • Make Line Supervisor immediately aware of any process and or packaging problems, or any machine malfunction
  • Deal with all problems in a calm professional manner
  • Work with all other departments to form a more unified company

Nonessential Functions: Previous experience in a manufacturing/production environment, preferable in the food/beverage industry.

Forklift Driver (2nd Shift)

Job Summary

  • Responsible for loading and unloading trucks
  • Pulling orders for incoming and outgoing loads
  • Repack cases

Essential Functions in Supporting Our Mission

  • Count and verify incoming loads
  • Pick orders for outgoing loads
  • Read distributor orders and verify they receive correct order
  • Assist the bottling line when needed
  • Rotate product in warehouse
  • Warehouse and bottling line clean up

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to drive a forklift
  • Must be able to lift 35lbs on a continuous basis and up to 75lbs on occasion
  • Must have good math skills

Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work on their feet for over eight hours at a time, continuously lift 35lbs and up to 75lbs on occasion, drive a forklift, work in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time, in a loud production environments and work in damp and wet areas.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Previous forklift experience
  • Proficient math and reading skills
  • High School Degree
