Our good friends at Frisco’s Burritos had Flying Dog last week and offered FIVE different styles of our delicious beer: Doggie-style Classic Pale Ale, K9 Cruiser Winter Ale, Double Dog Double Pale Ale, In-Heat Wheat Hefeweizen and Whiskey Barrel-aged Gonzo Imperial Porter.  That’s what we call “Beer Heaven.”

Our CFO, Kelly McElroy is awesome.  In fact, she’s so awesome, that we made a tribute to her on the chalkboard in the Marketing Dept.

Kelly, YOU ARE A BIG FUCKING DEAL!

WKTV in Utica, NY recently did a piece on how Craft Beer Sales are still strong in a down economy.  No surprise to us here at Flying Dog.  Really, when you start drinking good beer, can you go back?

That’s Haiku.  And we’re having a Twitter Haiku contest.  Here’s how to participate:

  1. Write a Flying Dog Haiku. “What’s a Flying Dog Haiku,” you ask? That’s for you to decide and us to judge.
  2. Post it on twitter with “@flyingdog” at the beginning. the @flyingdog is not part of your haiku.
  3. Do it before Noon on Feb 18, 2009.
  4. The top 5 haikus will be chosen by our esteemed panel of Neal Stewart (Prime Minister of Marketing/@nealstewart), Josh Mishell (Visual Viceroy/@joshmishell),  Jim Caruso (Flying Dog CEO), Stephanie Kerchner (PR and Events Ninja/@stephkerchner) and maybe a few more people.
  5. Yes, it should be creative.
  6. Yes, we like to see our name in lights, so including something about Flying Dog earns brownie points with the judges.  Maybe something about Gonzo, Hunter S. Thompson, Ralph Steadman – you get the point.  Go to our website for some creative motivation.
  7. The top 5 Twitter Haikus will receive $50 gift certificate to our online store.
  8. Must be 21 to enter and/or win.
  9. All entries must be posted to Twitter.com by NOON, Feb 18.
  10. The judges decision is final.  Believe us, they’re not screwing around.

And yes, this contest was inspired by Beer Haiku Daily.

Our CEO and General Partner, Jim Caruso loves the beer business.  It’s not uncommon to see Jim filling his day by working on the bottling line, helping fix the case erector, talking numbers with our CFO and then going out to make some sales calls in the afternoon.  Jim’s life IS a craft beer adventure.

A couple weeks back, Jim decided that he’s going to start documenting his adventures via photography.  Everyday, Jim takes at least one photo to document what’s going on his world.  Take this photo below as an example.  Last week, Jim and our VP of Sales, Rich Graham were down in Houston.  After a long day of distributor meetings, they wanted to belly up to the bar and have a cold Flying Dog, so they busted out the GPS and looked for the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium.  Needless to say, the GPS did them wrong and they ended up at the Flying Saucer Pie Company.  All in a days work in the beer biz.  Luckily, they DID find the Flying Saucer that sells beer (not pies) and got their cold Flying Dog.

GPS direction to Flying Saucer Draught Emporium...nice eh?
