We’re doing a twitter contest this week, in honor of American Craft Beer Week. Here’s the gist. Each day this week, we’ll be posting a tweet asking you what you’re drinking tonight. Chris “Sach” Leidy deserves a gold star, or more likely a free case of beer, for his recent efforts. In a day that would make Mike Rowe from “Dirty Jobs” proud, we had Sach working on some of our equipment.

Brewing can be a dirty job

Brewing beer, if you’re not familiar with the process, can be a pretty dirty job. Especially when you need to work on getting the Cablevey in tip-top shape. For those of you who are uninitiated, the Cablevey is the grain transfer system from the mill in the mill house to the Grist case that is on the roof. The malt is somewhat like flour at that point so that is why Sach has all that white dust all over him.

So Sach battled the Cablevey all day, and in true Flying Dog style, he came out on top.

Even the United States Military is starting to catch on to this whole Flying Dog thing.  We’re proud to announce that our Doggie-style Classic Pale Ale will be available on tap at some select locations on Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia.

If you’re one of the fine men or women serving our country at Quantico, you will now be able to do it Doggie-style.

Chris Angel and Darrin Pikarski.  Darrin is the guy on the left with his fist in the air and Chris is in the middle who was holding some 7oz Kerberos Tripels to smuggle into the movie theater.  Both of these guys played a huge role in making Charlotte’s Beer Wars Party one of the biggest in the country.  Darrin is also the President of the Charlotte Beer Club.  If you live in Charlotte and like good beer, get in touch with this guy.  He has connections.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, or don’t like good beer, you’ve probably heard about the movie, Beer Wars that is playing this coming Thursday as a one-night release.  Beer Wars is a documentary about the beer industry and how craft brewers (like Flying Dog) are fighting the good fight against the giant brewers with giant marketing budgets.

Again, this is a ONE-NIGHT release, so no procrastination allowed.  You gotta get out and see it on THURSDAY, APRIL 16.  Click here for a list of theaters that are screening Beer Wars.

We will also be hosting a couple special events along with the movie screening in Denver, CO and Charlotte, NC.

In Denver, stop by the Blake Street Tavern after the movie for a complimentary Flying Dog (with proof of movie ticket).

In Charlotte, meet us at the Flying Saucer for a pre and post party.  Prior to the screening, representatives from various breweries, including Foothills Brewing, Rock Bottom Brewery and of course, Flying Dog will be on hand to tell their brewery’s story and answer questions.

We’re really excited to be taking part in the next Twitter Taste Live event on April 18.

Not familiar with Twitter Taste Live?  That’s ok, we’re learning too.  Our most recent newsletter does a good job of explaining it, but the simple explanation is that’s Twitter Taste Live an online beer sampling forum using Twitter as a means for sharing tasting notes and asking questions.

Our VP of Brewing Ops, Matt Brophy (@brophybrewer) and Flying Dog CEO, Jim Caruso (@jcperro) will be hosting a special Twitter Taste Live on Saturday, April 18th at 8PM (EST) and will answer questions about our Canis Major Series of beers or just Flying Dog in general.

If you’re interested in joining us online, log on to TwitterTasteLive.com and get signed up.  It will be great opportunity to get those burning beer questions answered by the people that brew Flying Dog.

One of the common questions we get is, “What food should I pair with this beer?”  Here are a few ideas of which foods we like to pair with each of our Canis Major styles. We encourage you to have some of these on hand and share your thoughts at the Flying Dog Twitter Taste Live.

Double Dog Double Pale Ale – smoked meats and cheddar cheese

Gonzo Imperial Porter – BBQ and chocolate desserts

Horn Dog Barley Wine – dried fruits and sweet desserts

Kerberos Tripel – Turkey or other poultry, creamy cheeses, fruit pastries
